FETHİYE
Fethiye's Historical Sites
After a delicious breakfast, you're ready to hit the road. We recommend dedicating this part of your day to history. Tlos and Pinara, located approximately 45 km from the city center, are two Lycian cities added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in 2009. Among the surviving ruins of Pinara, a significant Lycian settlement, are an agora, a bathhouse, rock tombs, a theater, and sarcophagi. Like Pinara, Tlos also stands out with its magnificent ruins. Don't leave Tlos, resembling an open-air museum, without seeing the Temple of Kronos and the Girmeler Cave. After Tlos and Pinara, you can visit Saklıkent Gorge, one of Turkey's most impressive spots. The canyon is approximately 23 km from Tlos and Pinara and 44 km from the city center.
Fethiye is a region rich in historical sites. It's nearly impossible to see everything in one day. Therefore, if you want to turn west instead of heading east of Fethiye to see Tlos and Pinara, you can complete your journey through time by visiting Kayaköy, approximately 18 km from the city centre, and then the ancient city of Kadyana, 31 km from here.
